Overview
Now that you have completed the grammar self-assessment, it is time to reflect on your grammatical acumen. As stated in the quiz directions, the extent to which you will need to teach grammar depends on your role interacting with English learners, but most English learners need support in their use of grammar. However, many teachers do not feel comfortable with their own level of knowledge about grammar and are consequently nervous to instruct others in the subject. This assignment will ask you to consider your own comfort with grammar instruction.
Details
Compose a minimum 300 word narrative that addresses all of the following prompts.
- How successful were you in the grammar self-assessment? Approximately how many did you get correct? Were you confident in your answers or did you guess some? How comfortable were you in answering the questions?
- Was one of the two groups of questions (Group 1 questions were related to using proper grammar and correcting errors; Group 2 questions focused on grammatical terms) easier for you? Do you think one or the other is more important for teachers?
- Based on your level of grammatical knowledge, how comfortable would you be teaching grammar?
- If you consider your grammatical knowledge to be insufficient, what steps could you take to improve?
Evaluation
Your reflection will be evaluated for completeness, insightful, and quality of reflection. Note that your level of grammar knowledge or comfort is not part of your grade.
