The purpose of this essay is to analyze a reading. You will learn about explication and analysis in this unit. Your main goal is to come up with a sharp analytical thesis about ideas in the text and the writer’s literary techniques. Then, you will craft a well-organized essay supporting your thesis.
Although you may use some research for your weekly assignments to help you explicate and analyze the literature, this essay should not include outside source material. The content should be derived from your own analysis, based on class discussions and your own observations. Again, do not conduct research for this assignment. The only text you will cite is the short story in your textbook.
