Social theory is everything and everything is social theory
The significance of social theory in order for us to understand the world around us. I am not going to go into a diatribe if what we see is real or what is the truth, the reality of what we know and how we know is the reason for theory. Theory helps us to view our society and to apply reason for why things happen or to understand and prepare for what may come.
There are different levels of theory
Meta Theory: Theories of theories
Theory/Grand Theory: Theories that explain society as a whole
Middle Range Theories: Theories that explain specific areas in society. For example, crime, education, housing, etc….
Micro Theories: These are theories that focus on explaining group or individual interaction.
